Although Pijl and now Ertz attribute this work to Jan Brueghel, I find this hard to believe. Borromeo, who bought numerous landscapes from both artists, was explicit in his Donation that this was a picture by Bril mounted with five works by Jan Brueghel. Surely he knew?
